Experience
I tutored hundreds of students in NYC from 2000-2013 in after school programs and Saturday programs after my day classes as an English Language Arts teacher in Manhattan high schools and middle schools. I worked for WyzAnt - a national tutoring agency - since 2011 and briefly taught adult education nights for the NYC Department of Education in 2010 after my full-time day job at the School for the Physical City in midtown Manhattan. For several years I taught 11th and 12th grades and was responsible as an 11th grade teacher for preparing hundreds of students for the New York State English Language Arts (ELA) test. I also taught 8th grade and was responsible for preparing students for the state 8th grade ELA test. Besides English, I often taught Global History in NYC and am CLEP certified in Global and US History. I also was an ESL (English Second Language) teacher in NYC over two years at Gramercy Arts High School in Union Square and at a Lower East Side middle school. I am not, however, ESL certified. I was trained in graduate school in identifying, analyzing and repairing literacy deficiencies and issues as well as in dealing with issues with advanced children. I have published several novels and children’s books and currently teach, privately, writing to adult students and privately tutor students of all ages. Before becoming a teacher, I owned and operated Middlesex News Service in Cambridge, Mass., for ten years, specializing in court news. I had some 40 news organizations which included almost all of the Middlesex County newspapers. Client news groups included The Providence Journal, Cape Cod Times, and the Associated Press, The Cambridge Chronicle, The Somerville Journal, The Woburn Times, Winchester Star, The Middlesex News, The Nashua Telegraph, the Lowell Sun, The Lawrence Eagle-Tribune, The Newton Graphic, The Medford Mercury, The Melrose Evening News, and many others. I have traveled extensively and, in 2009-10, took four trips to Asia including one to Istanbul, one to India and two others to Thailand. Additionally, I have made trips to Europe and visited many Central and South American countries and have traveled in all of the United States except Hawaii. I have been deep in the Amazon rain forest in eco-tourism capacities twice and also visited Machu Pichuu twice in 1991 and 1994. I have a working knowledge of French and Spanish but would not say I am fluent. I also have extensive experience in owning/operating extraordinary small gift shops in New Hampshire: the Bow Street Candle & Mug and Southwest Passage Gallery in Portsmouth from 1990-1999 and the Silverlight Candle & Gift Shoppe in Nashua, NH. from 2013-2015.

Hobbies
I have excellent computer skills including the use of multiple educational programs and applications and have a very good working knowledge of self-publishing. I self-published all of my novels A to Z. I love to explore wild areas. I have climbed in some of the highest mountains in the Andes in Peru including Huascaran and have explored the cliffs and canyons of the American southwest - about 12 visits to Canyonlands National Park. I am an avid photographer and enjoy it most when in exotic places such as Istanbul and Mumbai or when I am off by myself trying to get a view of a jaguar, for instance, in the Amazon. I also like visiting ruins such as Chichen Itza and Tulum in Mexico. Other interests include scuba diving on great coral reefs. I have a profound interest in history with a particular concentration on the great upheavals since the American and French revolutions.
